I got into the jewelry business after being scammed. I bought a ring for a girl, but it turned out to be fake. Though we parted ways, that experience sparked my interest in jewelry. I wanted to learn everything about diamonds and gold.

Soon after, I met Melinda. We decided to go to jewelry school together. I became a master jeweler, and Melinda found her passion in customer service and marketing. Together, we opened Spirit Lake Silver and Gold.

In the beginning, I did all the work at the bench—sizing, setting gems, and designing jewelry. But we knew we needed more knowledge to succeed, so we continued our education at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). There, we learned everything about diamonds, gemstones, and gold.

We then traveled the world to buy the best materials and build strong relationships with top companies. This allowed us to offer great prices and quality to our customers. What started with selling turquoise sterling silver rings at a beach resort in Spirit Lake eventually grew into a business selling diamonds, gemstones, custom jewelry, and more.

After 43 years, it’s been an amazing journey. We’re grateful for the support from our community, friends, customers, and employees. Many customers have become more like family, and we couldn’t have done it without them. We’re excited to see where Spirit Lake Silver and Gold will take us next.
