After the jeweler passed away, Tim helped his widow clean out their home. She gave Tim a collection of jewelers’ magazines, which sparked his interest in custom and fine jewelry.

As Tim grew up, he realized that his true passion was jewelry. He went to jewelry school at Gem City in Quincy, Illinois, and then apprenticed back in St. Louis. Later, he moved to the Chicago area and worked as a jeweler and manager at a family-owned shop. He handled custom designs, shop work, and repairs, helping the business grow. During this time, Tim learned a lot about running a business.

Tim decided to start his own company while working part-time at Rainbow Design Jewelers. In 1992, he founded Timothy Grant Jewelry out of his home, focusing on giving his business a family-owned feel and personal touch.

In 1997, Tim took over a small independent jewelry store in Lake Zurich and renamed it “Timothy Grant Jewelry.” He stopped doing trade work and focused entirely on his personal customers. The store stayed at its first location for ten years. During that time, Tim served on the board of directors for the Lake Zurich Chamber of Commerce, and Timothy Grant Jewelry won several awards.

In 2010, Tim bought Rainbow Design Jewelers, opening a second Timothy Grant Jewelry location in Schaumburg. In February 2017, he moved the Lake Zurich store to a standalone building.

Timothy Grant Jewelry has always focused on family. Tim’s wife Lisa, daughter Darby, and their two dogs work at the stores. Their goal is to help other families make their occasions special.
